Spirited Travellers to Tasmania

With high spirits we board the Spirit of Tasmania! We were up EARLY on a Sunday to join the queue for our day sail. The kids were stoked to be sailing on a huge ship. There was enough activities to keep them both busy. The ship has a playground for children under 10, face painting and they received an activity pack!

Good Bits.

Straight after disembarking we head to a  free camp not too far from Devonport. This is only the beginning of all the awesome free camping on Tasmania! We stay one night and put the Amarok to the test with its first bumpy uphill track whilst towing the Van.

You would not believe it but on our SECOND night in Tasmania, we have an amazing experience with a wild animal. We chose to free camp beside a stream at St Columba Falls State Reserve, near Pyengana. At about 8.30pm, a wild platypus began fossicking for food right in front of us! It’s a real privilege to watch an animal its natural habitat.

The next day, we visited St Columba Falls. Its an easy walk from the carpark and so cool to walk through a fern forest.

The Creamy Bits.

The turquoise sea contrasting with the orange lichen covered granite boulders makes The Bay of Fires region so legendary!

There is tons of camping all along this part of the coast and the best part is its FREE and DOG FRIENDLY! What a winner!

We rocked up on a warm, sunny day and quickly set up to enjoy the beach. Our spot was at Cosy Corner South, where we had shelter from the coastal wind. Its very busy in peak season and suggest you arrive before lunch time to snag a decent position to set up camp. The weather gods were smiling on us and turned up the heat for our stay! It was a real pleasure to jump into the cool Tasmanian water.
