The World Heritage Daintree & Bloomfield Track

Cowie Beach Lapping Oz

AWOW (Absent With Out Wifi) whilst exploring the World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics of the Daintree National Park.

It's like a whole other dimension in the Daintree with the most fascinating plants that belong in an ancient lost world!

Taking the Daintree River Ferry.

The ferry crossing is short and it feels like you're about to embark on something really special when your car rolls towards the rainforest. A one way ferry pass for our vehicle and caravan cost $21. (Prices correct November 2018)

Camping with our dog was easier than expected, with pet friendly options available close enough to the world famous Cape Tribulation. This iconic destination is where the magnificent tropical rainforest literally spills over onto the sandy ocean beach. There's no other place on Earth like it, and it is still here today because of conservation action taken in the early 1980's. After the "Bloomfield Blockade" the Daintree became World Heritage Listed.

We missed out on the visitors information centre as it was closed (it was a Monday.) Tourist numbers are quite low in November, the month of our visit, yet there were still plenty of people walking along Cape Tribulation beach.

Bloomfield Track Conditions!

We had a little chat with the lady at the servo about the current road conditions of the Bloomfield Track. (We have done the track before, but that was 12 years ago!) She told us something about steep gradients and that we may struggle towing the caravan. So off we went, having no idea (didn't remember) how steep it would become. We encountered the most intense gradients we've seen, one of them being 31% for 1.7kms!! Adam put the Amarok in Sport mode (it holds the gears longer) and he turned off the traction control for the inclines. Besides the concentration needed for the track, it is a beautiful drive and once you're past Blockade Creek, you know you're heading off into adventure land.
