Coleman Hot Water On Demand H20ASIS Elite Review

COLEMAN HOT WATER ON DEMAND H20ASIS ELITE & CARRY BAG

The Coleman HWOD H20ASIS is a portable hot water unit capable of producing hot water in seconds. Its maximum heat output is 7500 BTU’s and it has a lithium Ion rechargeable battery. It has a digital display and the ability to charge smartphones with its two USB ports. It comes with a collapsable water storage container, which can connect directly to the unit. We have the carry bag (sold separately) for storage and protection.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Ever heard the phrase "start ya bastard?!" Our unit has had multiple issues since new, but we have persevered with it, mainly because we didn’t want to believe that a Coleman product could let us down. After persevering with “FLO ERROR” - where the water cuts off for reasons that we still can’t fathom - and the gas igniter needing an excessive amount of time to start (two minutes!), we pulled our unit apart last week to find out just what the bloody hell is wrong with our unit.

We removed the plastic outer shell which revealed a metal casing inside with a what looked like to us, an unnatural bow in the top. One of the plugs for the wiring was barely clipped together and the insulation foil inside was torn with large holes, possibly contributing to its inability to hold enough heat to light the pilot. We couldn’t believe our unit passed Quality Assurance.

The on/off switch sits proud at the rear of the unit and turns on when it is simply laying inside its carry bag in storage. At first, we thought we were just being forgetful and that we must be leaving the switch in the on position. We came to realise that it was turning on in storage and it is a design flaw of the unit. Having the switch sit flush would solve the issue.

PROS.

Portable and compact size.

Shower head produces a good stream.

Once started, hot water is almost instant.

Light weight.

Rechargable

Efficient on gas, inexpensive to run.

CONS.

Too unreliable.

Poor workmanship.

The USB ports are rusted.

Plastic shower head breaks easily.

FLO Error for NO reason.

On/Off switch poorly designed.

VERDICT.

When it works, its brilliant. Fantastic hot water, good stream of flow from the shower head and the gas consumption is very efficient. It is too unreliable and we get anxiety every time we need to use it, wondering if it will even start. Our Coleman Hot Water On Demand Elite is a lemon. It comes with three years warranty but as we are travelling full-time, we can’t be without it while it goes in for repair. We will continue to mutter under our breath "start ya bastard" while standing butt naked in the shower tent.

WE RATE IT...
