After 13 weeks of daily use and the equivalent of 45 weekend camping trips, our Decathlon camping table and chair set has been given a fair workout.
WHAT’S IN THE SET?
The set consists of a lightweight aluminium table and four compact fabric seats, which are designed to fit inside the table for easy storage. The table and chairs both feature the same modern design and is available in blue only.
The table legs fold out and extend with ease. There are no issues with the locking mechanism on the legs getting bound up and stuck. The table legs extend high enough to sit comfortably while eating meals. We prefer the “coffee table” height, it’s perfect for entertaining ourselves with camping style grazing table cheese platters!
WHAT ARE THE FOLDING CHAIRS LIKE?
While initially I was uncertain if we would use the foldable seats that came with the Decathlon camping table set, I am absolutely a huge fan of them now. Being compact and light makes them the first choice when we want to carry chairs a fair distance. You can hold all of them together quite easily on the crook of your arm. The seats are perfect for when new mates stop by for happy hour in the campground and going fishing. They are also sturdy enough to use as a side table for a cuppa when you’re sitting in your normal camp chair.
HOW DOES IT HANDLE AUSTRALIA’S HARSH CONDITIONS?
I was really excited to see how the fabric on the seats would withstand Australia’s intense UV conditions. Let me tell you, the seats have been outside for 90 days, with most of those days in the Australian Outback and Top End. The fabric has well and truly passed the challenge! It still looks like new and although we have camped in copious amounts of red dirt, there is no sign of the dreaded red stain.
In the past with other brands, over time, the hooks which locks the table shut gets very hard to lever. It is not the case at all with the Decathlon camping table and chairs set. The hooks still lever very smoothly, it is still working like the day we brought it home from the store.
Before we travel to our next destination, the set is cleaned and stored on one of the beds in the caravan. We try not to let it get wet, but it has happened and the rain and dew hasn’t appeared to have done any damage. Yay!
HOW EASY IS IT TO CARRY?
The chairs have a max weight capacity of 100kg each and the entire set weighs 8.7kgs. You can also buy the chairs separately for $15 each.
VERDICT.
Overall, the Decathlon table and chairs set has been outstanding and we consider it to be one of the best on the market.
